Jorge Martinez
Their seasons may be over, but multiple players for both the Kingston Redskins and Madill Wildcats were honored as part of the District 3A-2 All-District Team. The awards and all-district squads were voted on by the eight coaches of the district.
Headlining the honorees is Madill senior quarterback Kendall Robertson, as Offensive Player of the Year. Robertson completed 96 of his 167 passes on the year for 1,325 years and 18 scores, giving him a quarterback rating of 111.5. Robertson also rushed for 611 yards on 76 attempts, averaging over eight yards per carry, with 10 scores. Robertson was also an able receiver, catching seven passes for 109 yards.
Next on the list is Kingston senior running back Brandon Watson, Offensive Back of the Year. Watson was the engine that drove Kingston’s offense, carrying the ball 206 times for 1,172 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging over five yards a carry.
Madill senior Nick Northcutt was co-Receiver of the Year, sharing the honor with Lone Grove’s JJ Miller. Northcutt led the Wildcats in receptions, catching 31 passes for 411 yards, over 13 yards per catch, with six of those for touchdowns.
Kingston senior wideout Braden Matchen was named to the First-Team Offense. Matchen finished the season with 536 yards and five touchdowns on his 18 catches, averaging nearly 30 yards a reception.
Madill senior Jorge Martinez and Kingston senior Zach McQueary, leaders on their respective teams’ offense lines, were named to the All-District First Team Offense as offensive linemen.
Kingston senior Brycen Ellisor was named to the First Team Defense as a defensive lineman. The leader of the Redskins’ defensive line, Ellisor finished the season with 38 tackles and three and a half sacks, despite being nearly constantly doubleteamed.
Madill senior Tito Gomez and Kingston senior Grant Holmes were both named to the First Team Defense as linebackers. Gomez, playing in only nine games, recorded 51 tackles on the season, controlling the middle of the field for the Wildcat defense. Holmes, who played in only seven games, recorded 43 tackles on the season, and led an otherwise-inexperienced linebacker corps for the Redskins.
Madill senior Ezekiel Fuentes and Kingston senior Hayden McKinney were both named to the First Team Defense as defensive backs. Fuentes recorded 20 tackles at corner, as well as four interceptions, one of which he returned for a score. According to Madill Head Coach Chad Speer, Fuentes “was solid all year, but really got better as the season progressed.” McKinney recorded a stunning 66 tackles as a defensive back, often playing more as an extra linebacker than a defensive back.
Among the Honorable Mentions were Kingston wide receiver and defensive back Cole Morgan. The senior caught eight passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns for the Redskins, while recording 11 tackles and an interception on defense.
Madill seniors Danny Lima and Cornelius Smith were also Honorable Mentions. Lima, a defensive lineman, played in only eight games, but had 20 tackles, two of them for loss, and forced a fumble. Smith, a linebacker, recorded 32 tackles, a forced fumble, a recovered fumble and two interceptions on the season.
Both Speer and Kingston Head Coach Tommy Bare expressed pride in their players for the honor, and gratitude to each of these seniors for the hard work they put in this season.
