For over twenty-five years, Santa’s Elves have been distributing food baskets once a year to Marshall County’s elderly and disabled citizens. What started out as a Thanksgiving mealquicklyoutgrewthelocalDepartmentofHumanServices building and then birthed Santa’s Elves with the Madill First United Methodist Church.

Sue Cherry, a spokeswoman for the organization said they are very enthusiastic about this every year. With the help of Madill Public Schools’ canned food drives and Kingston’s Super C Mart, Santa’s Elves can provide two bags of groceries for the elderly and disabled in the area this Christmas.

Volunteershelp make thispossible with service from Madill High School students, Madill Student Council members and the Madill FFA. Those students aid in sorting, loading and stacking the grocery items for distribution. Volunteers are always welcomed and encouraged, Cherry said.

With the price of groceries increasing, Cherry said that the organization is being affected because last year’s bill for their food distribution program was $6,300. Cherry also said that Kingston’s Super C Mart is always helpful during this time especially with a discount on the hams.

Applications can be picked up on November 30 at the following locations: Ridgeview Nutrition, INCA, Baptist Village, Madill First United Methodist Church and the Kingston First United Methodist Church. Instructions for the drive-thru distribution on December 16 will be on the application. For volunteer information, please call 580-7959965 or 580-795-4155.
