It is not every day that Texomaland in The Chickasaw Nation is host to the greatness of such a play called “Nunsense” The book, music and lyrics were by Dan Goggin, anditwasdirectedby Susan Pfau Yeager (Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities at Murray State College). It was held on April 29 at at Murray State College.

When a play has a name like “Nunsense”, it is reason enough to not only investigate it but attend. “Nunsense” was a special treat being a collaboration with Ardmore Little Theatre and Murray State College and one might say it was a match made in Heaven. The stage at Aggie auditorium MSC is the perfect place for a show of this caliber and the stage is a harmonious ambience for the setting of a nun pun. This show was unique in that it included some of the most talentedactorsinthecastand many where well seasoned in the entertainment arts.

The setting seemed a bit odd at first glance as the stage was well decorated with props, but the props said nothing at all about nuns nor did it look anything like a convent, church, or commune. The stage almost seemed like it was set with props for another show.

The cast cleared up the misunderstanding of the props right off the bat and explained that they were allowed to use the stage for their fundraiser, but the set was for another show.

The reason for the nuns to put on the show was a seedy story. The cook, Sister Julia Child of God prepared a soup for supper that was the last supper for many of the nuns and left 52 “face down in the soup”. The sisters could afford to bury all but four of the Nuns of which they reserved in the walk-in freezer.

The performance fundraiser would help to raise the money to properly bury the remaining four sisters. To add to the mere problem of dead bodies in the freezer, the health inspector was coming for inspection any day.

The stage front consisted of a conductor, pianist, and drummer but the nun uniforms had no bearing on the fantastic music they produced. The crowd was jubilant, and the nuns even mingled amongst the seated audience and asked a few questions pertaining to faith.

This interaction added an element that was totally unexpected but fit in perfectly withtheset.Theperformance ended in a gas when Sister Mary Amnesia began to remember her real name and identity, and low and behold she had won a clearinghouse sweepstakes prior to her accident causing her amnesia. Although unannounced, the money would save the day.
