NewlyappointedMarshall County Court Clerk Angela Maldonado has called Madill home since her family moved here when she was just a child. Born in Durant, Okla., her family moved to Ft. Worth, Texas for a short while before settling back in Madill.

Maldonado said that both of her grandmothers lived in Madill and her mom moved her family back to care for one of them during their time of need. After graduating from Madill High School in 1993, Maldonado worked at theTexaco and at the now closed Catfish Platter in Willis.

She then worked at the Flower Basket in Madill for twelveyearswhereshehoned her customer service skills that would come in handy in the next phase of her career in the court clerk’s office.

Maldonado said that she made the transition from customer service to working for the county after experiencing health issues starting in 2010 with kidney stones that eventually led to her being hospitalized.

“In 2010, I was in the ICU in Oklahoma City and I almost didn’t make it from kidney stones, because I can not pass them,” Maldonado said.

Maldonado spoke about her health scare and how after going through surgery to remove the stones she realized that the lack of health insurance and benefits in her current position needed to change. She looked into different career paths to find one that would provide her with the benefits she needed.

“I am pretty good with the public so I have been doing that for a while, so I felt like this was the best option for me,” Maldonado said about coming to work at the court clerk’s office in 2017.

Maldonado, who has worked in the court clerk’s office since 2017, said she worked towards the goal of one day being court clerk.

“I love it,' she said. 'I had hoped one day that this is what I would do, it just came a little bit sooner than I had expected.”

Maldonado said she had much respect for the former Court Clerk Betty Moss.

“I’ve got some big shoes to fill.”

Maldonado said both former clerks, Wanda Pierce and Betty Moss, were influential in her career and she still calls them both to ask questions. She said she is determined to continue to learn and grow in her role and embraces the ongoing education that comes with her position.

Maldonado is a proud mother of three adult children; Austin 29, Alyssa 24 and Catherine 21. The two oldest graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and work for the Choctaw Nation and Catherine is now following in her siblings footsteps attending SE, as well.

“I’ve got three awesome kids,' Maldonado said with a smile. 'I don’t know how but they have been really good.” She said she enjoys dancing, reading and spending time with her family, especially during the holidays.

“I love holidays,' she said. 'Anytime there are holidays and stuff getting together with the kids and everybody coming over; watching them play games or play games with them is just fun.”

Maldonado joked about not being good at playing board games but enjoys spending that time with her family.

“My kids refuse to play Monopoly with me, because once I get a property I do not sell it.”

Maldonado said that she is looking forward to her new role as court clerk for Marshall County.

“I just think that if you have a goal, and it is something you want to do, you just keep trying and you will get there; you just got to keep at it.”
