When you want the best hamburger in Indian Territory, a great iconic spot is the Hamburger Inn located in the Old Historic district of Downtown Ardmore.

When a hamburger place has been around since the great depression and still serves an Oklahoma original onion burger, that’s reason enough to make a b-line to North Washington Street to see for yourself. Although Friday June 25 was certainly not the first visit, it was the first since the new owners re-opened in February 2022.

The Hamburger Inn was established in 1938 and was in a building across the street until it moved to the current building in 1956. The great depression gave way too many food-oriented businesses and, as for Oklahoma, the onion burger was an invention that stretched the beef and fed the hungry. In a way, it was like when peanut butter met chocolate.

Part of the great experience of visiting the Hamburger Inn is walking up to the free-standing building and seeing the metal sign that reads Hamburger Inn. Then, opening the door to see a magical preservation of a time that one simply cannot get anywhere else.

Achieving the greatness of being one of the best hamburgers in Oklahoma is not an easy task but the Hamburger Inn has done just that. It could possibly be because of a simple secret that leads to success. The secret is they use fresh USA beef never frozen and not pre-made or processed. They also use the best onions and other veggies that they can find.

The next step is integrity. The owners take pride in making their burgers. These factors make the burgers scrumptious.

The menu offers more than just burgers, it offers several types of burgers, chili dogs, French fries, and a whole range of other items including a fantastic breakfast menu. A notable hamburger place must include a delightful desert. The Hamburger Inn offers homemade pies like chocolate, coconut, pecan, and a few others.

The Hamburger Inn has remained an icon for decades and will continue to do so thanks to the new owners Elyssa White and Braeden Griffin. White happily gave the history behind the restaurant.

“I have worked here a long time and the Inn closed the end of 2021 and the owner was going to hang it up and sell the building and this really made me sad,” White said. She said that she had been saving up for a new house and then suddenly it hit her to ask the owner if he would sell. The rest is history, or at least, history in the making.

If you want to see what it takes to make the list of Worlds Best hamburger, then a trip to the Hamburger Inn must be the top of your list.
