Ardmore Little Theatre and Murray State College collaborated on “Beehive The 60’s Musical” created by Larry Gallagher and directed by Susan Pfau Yeager. The attended performance was March 13 at the Fletcher Auditorium in Tishomingo. The curtain officially raised at 7:00 p.m.

Yeager is not only the director of this musical performance, but she is also the Dean of the School of Arts, Education & Social Sciences at Murray State College and her credentials truly shine. With the very talented cast and crew of ALT, the 1960 era wondrously resonates. Yeager said the collaboration has turned out to be a really great opportunity for Murray State students to experience professional acting.

The musical brought to present life the true influence of American music on culture as well as culture’s influence on American Music. The musical included some of the hits of the 60’s which lyrics still apply to modern time reminding the world of a period when music seemed to have a much greater contempt for humanity and authenticity.

The musical presented a story of a time when human rights, equality and war where true issues that were changing the world. Each cast member duplicated a song of the 60’s in solo that depicts these issues as well as becomes a platform for transformation.

The cast even sported the costumes reflecting the styles of the era. The musical touched on the European invasion of Music and reflected American artists who fired back with some real number one hits.

To attend at Fletcher Auditorium at MSC, one cannot miss the orchestra in front of the stage and even if the eye somehow overlooks the perfect assembly, the ear cannot. The band, directed by Yeager from a director’s chair, was the real heartbeat of the play.

Some of the timeless songs included: “One Fine Day”, “Son of a Preacher Man”, “Me and Bobby McGee and “Abraham, Martin and John.
