Baldwins; all about good cooking

Is the key to a great restaurant good food, you better believe it. Searching for a great in-house prepped and cooked dinner is reason enough to venture over to Baldwins Restaurant in Ardmore.

An adventurous field trip led us to Baldwins in Ardmore. Baldwins was established in 1976 and has remained a crowd favorite for their entire existence.

The menu is packed with the country classic favorites one might expect from the inviting curb appeal. The thought that such a vast menu would warrant some not so delicious selections would be a big mistake as everything they serve is as good as it sounds – in fact, it’s much better.

The menu includes breakfast with about anything one would desire. Lunch includes the favorites like, big juicy hamburgers of many styles, steak sandwiches, veggie plate, hot dogs, Frito pie, and daily lunch plate specials. The side items are of the most delight including, onion rings, French fries, mashed potatoes with brown or white gravy, green beans, corn, beans, and of course a classic good food lovers favorite, cottage cheese and peaches. All lunch plates are served with the fluffiest rolls and down-home cornbread.

The field trip leader ordered fresh hand-made salmon patties with special house sauce and, green beans, mashed potatoes, and brown gravy, and of course cottage cheese and peaches. The field trip assistant ordered a slightly different plate of hand battered chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and a bucket of white gravy, and kernel style corn.

The smell alone was a foodie’s dream, but the first bite was like a ride in a time capsule right back to some of the meals eaten as a kid in the old kitchens of my aunts and grandmothers. Normally, portions the size Baldwins serves would require a doggie bag. However, this trip, the dog ate it all.

The food was just as expected, fantastic and delicious. Don’t take my word on it, take a field trip to Baldwins, and come to your own conclusion. The establishment is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
