There will be a dedication on Sunday, September 17 at Fire-station One to honor former fire chief Jere Zimmerman. The dedication is truly an honor. Gary and Caroline Wullenwaber donated to have the sign made to honor Zimmermanandwhathehad done for the department.

Zimmerman joined the fire department in 1995 and with only a small jeep with 50 gallons of water and a hammer to keep it running, an engine that was old and hard to drive, Zimmerman decided it was time to start building equipmentandmakeTexoma Fire Department one of the best in Marshall County. The first two brush trucks were built in the back yard and then the 4,000-gallon tanker was built.

Zimmerman had the knowledge to do it all, so with the help of the fire team, the two tankers were built. The county was having lots of car wrecks and with only one crash truck in the county, it was decided to get permission from the EMS board and sheriff’s department to build acrashtruckwithextradition equipment and do the training that was needed.

Then, there needed to be landing zones set up for the helicopter to land for EMS patients for transfer, and Zimmerman got them set up. The fire department then bought a new engine. Then, they had to build a building to house the tanker and engine, so Zimmerman got the project going and everyone helped erect the building with a meeting room, ready to house all the trucks.

Zimmerman took pride in the department and never hesitated to work to make it the best. Making the dedication to Zimmerman is such a great honor from all the Texoma Fire Department personnel/ Auxiliary and TFDBoard.Zimmermanwill be missed.

Zimmerman was the fire chief for 11 years before retiring.
